’Tending Color’ is an ongoing practice of creating my art materials from the land I live with. I tend to plants in gardens and in ruderal urban spaces as well as gather botanical and mineral materials sourced from my immediate environment especially from the waste-stream. I then refine and reform what I collect into pigments, dyes, inks and paints. A collected material, say a flower, is broken down into its constituent parts and then through physical labor and craft it is reformed into something new. I am drawn to these processes which mirror some of the most mysterious of human experiences. Many of the works shown on this site were created with these collected and hand-processed art supplies.

‘Tending color’ is the point of contact from which I explore my relationship to the world around me. This practice helps me to perceive and experience the aliveness of ‘more then human’ world. It ties me and my art practice to the land.
